Mourning & White-winged Dove
Texas is the undisputed dove hunting capital of the nation, harvesting millions of mourning and white-winged doves annually. The season opens on September 1 in the North and Central zones, and mid-September in the South Zone.
Sunflower, sesame, and milo fields near San Antonio, Uvalde, and Abilene attract massive migrations, providing fast-paced wingshooting and celebrated opening-day barbecues.

Northern Bobwhite & Scaled Quail
South Texas and the Rolling Plains hold legendary wild bobwhite quail populations. In wet years, the mesquite and prickly pear rangelands produce explosive covey rises behind pointing bird dogs.

Eastern Fox & Grey Squirrel
The dense hardwood river bottoms of East Texas (Pineywoods) feature traditional squirrel hunting in May (spring season) and October through February.

Desert Cottontail & Jackrabbit
Abundant across Texas pastureland and brush country with open year-round harvest on private lands.
