White-tailed Deer

Pennsylvania is a cornerstone of American deer hunting culture, home to over 750,000 licensed deer hunters and more than 1.5 million acres of public State Game Lands.

Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) manages deer through Wildlife Management Units (WMUs). The state's antler-restriction program has successfully transformed Pennsylvania into a bona fide producer of mature, heavy-racked bucks. The six-week archery season spans the November rut, while the traditional post-Thanksgiving rifle season brings hundreds of thousands of orange-clad hunters into deer camps across the Allegheny National Forest and northern tier mountains.

Rocky Mountain Elk

Pennsylvania's wild elk herd—thriving across the deep valleys and hardwood ridges of Elk, Cameron, and Clearfield counties—is one of the premier conservation achievements in North American history. Mature Pennsylvania bulls grow staggering world-class antlers, frequently scoring 380 to 420+ inches.

PGC conducts an annual computerized lottery for archery, general firearm, and late-winter elk seasons. The September archery season offers spine-tingling bugling action in high oak clearcuts and agricultural valleys around Benezette.

American Black Bear
Heavyweight Trophy Black Bears

American Black Bear

Pennsylvania bears are famous for extraordinary body weights, with mature boars regularly tipping the scales at 500 to 700+ pounds due to abundant agricultural food and rich acorn crops.

PGC offers archery, muzzleloader, and traditional four-day statewide firearms bear seasons in late November. Big-woods timber drives and organized gang-hunting are celebrated Keystone traditions across the north-central plateau.

Eastern Wild Turkey
Spring & Fall Gobblers

Eastern Wild Turkey

Pennsylvania's oak-hickory forests and farmland edges support a robust wild turkey population, offering storied spring gobbler hunting across public State Game Lands and state forests.
