White-tailed Deer
New York provides two distinct and thrilling deer hunting styles: the agricultural farm country of western New York and the Finger Lakes, and the untamed wilderness of the Adirondack and Catskill mountains.
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) manages deer through Wildlife Management Units (WMUs). In the 6-million-acre Adirondack Park, wilderness hunters track heavy-bodied northern bucks across trackless boreal forest, while western farm-country hunters enjoy high deer densities and outstanding archery success along corn and soybean funnels.

American Black Bear
New York supports over 6,000 to 8,000 black bears across northern and southeastern forest ranges.
NYSDEC offers early bear seasons in September in the Adirondacks, followed by regular gun seasons in the Catskills and Hudson Valley. Spot-and-stalk tactics near blueberry barrens, beech tree ridges, and wetland borders yield consistent success.

Eastern Wild Turkey
New York's hardwood forests and dairy pastures sustain abundant wild turkeys, offering a month-long spring season in May with generous two-bearded-bird limits across upstate counties.
