White-tailed Deer
Indiana has surged into national prominence as a premier trophy whitetail powerhouse. The state's fertile agricultural soils, extensive woodlots, and one-buck limit allow mature bucks to reach full antler potential, producing numerous 170-to-200+ inch giants.
Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) offers over-the-counter archery, firearms, and late muzzleloader licenses. Top hunting regions span the hill country of southern Indiana—including Harrison, Crawford, and Perry counties within the Hoosier National Forest—alongside the agricultural river corridors of the Wabash and White rivers. The late December muzzleloader season offers outstanding cold-weather hunting over standing food sources.

Eastern Wild Turkey
The extensive deciduous woodlands of southern Indiana and riparian corridors of central Indiana sustain healthy Eastern wild turkey flocks.
IDNR conducts a three-week spring season starting in late April. Top public access areas include Hoosier National Forest, Morgan-Monroe State Forest, and various Fish & Wildlife Areas (FWAs). Hunters utilize locator calls at dawn to pinpoint roosted gobblers before working them into shotgun range with realistic hen yelps and purrs.
